Style vs. Fashion

Found a great fashion debate on the street style blog, The Sartorialist

What is "fashion" versus what is "style?"

Rolled shorts could easily become a trend or fashion, but unless everyone is doing it (I guess in this case) it would be considered personal style.

Whichever it is, I think it looks great but I'm just not a rolled shorts guy. It is not in my personal style catalog - however if rolled shorts became fashionable I would probably consider them more carefully.

As I write this I am realizing that great personal style is made up of a certain percentage of "always" items and methods, mixed with a certain percentage of "sometimes" fashions, and a certain percentage of "nevers". "

A Magic Wand For Espresso

A food blogger in the New York Times reviewed a new portable hand held espresso maker:

"The Twist, from the startup Mypressi, doesn’t look like much: a handle with an orb, it resembles a personal massager. There’s a double spout familiar from most espresso machines, and a trigger on the handle, but there’s no cord, because there’s no need for power. Instead, the Twist uses a standard carbon dioxide cartridge to force water through the filter basket – the 9 bar pressure comes entirely from the cartridge, which is regulated by a sophisticated mechanism hidden in the handle. Squeeze the trigger and a perfectly dosed espresso streams out of the spouts, a 30-second extraction with a rich crema.  A gimmick? I don’t think so. The shot I tasted was sophisticated and balanced. It was a delicious espresso."

Man wins 'best job in the world' competition

A British man beat 34,000 other applicants Wednesday to win, what has been dubbed, "the best job in the world" -- to stroll the white sands of a tropical island in Queensland, Australia, file weekly reports online to a global audience and earn a cool $100,000.

For the winner, Ben Southall, the six-month assignment is a far cry from his old job as a fundraiser.

He will move into a three-bedroom beach home overlooking the tropical island's Great Barrier Reef. For six months, he will feed the fish, clean the pool and send weekly blog and video reports on what is happening on the island.

Other benefits include free return airfares from their nearest capital city, transport on the island, computer and camera gear and travel to other islands.

The job starts July 1.
